- Series
- A sizing standard (1310, 1330, 1350, 1410…) that defines the U-joint, yokes and tube that fit together.
- CJ (Center of Joint)
- The center of a U-joint. Working length is measured center-of-joint to center-of-joint (CJ to CJ).
- U-Joint
- Universal joint — the cross-and-bearing that lets the shaft transmit torque through an angle.
- Slip Yoke
- A splined yoke that slides in and out to allow length change as the suspension moves.
- Weld Yoke
- A yoke welded directly to the tube.
- Flange Yoke
- A bolt-on yoke with a flat flange and bolt pattern, common on trucks and PTOs.
- Center Support Bearing
- A rubber-mounted bearing that supports the middle of a two-piece driveshaft.
- Splines
- The grooves on a slip yoke or shaft. Count and diameter must match the mating part.
- Pilot
- The centering hub on a flange that locates it precisely on the mating flange.
- Balancing
- Spinning the finished shaft and adding weights so it runs smooth without vibration.
